Strawbridge School

The Strawbridge School offers several programs to meet the unique needs of each student.
We serve Preschool through High School students who are designated with Autism, Emotional Disability, Intellectual Disability, or Specific Learning Disability.
Our program is an intentionally small, caring setting where students, parents, and stakeholders can feel uplifted, supported, and heard.
At Strawbridge, parents/guardians can have peace of mind in knowing that everything possible will be done to serve students.
Our program is designed to integrate academic, behavioral, clinical, and vocational goals, to prepare students for a lesser restrictive setting.
The Strawbridge School services individuals in both day and residential programs, approved by the Maryland State Department of Education and accredited through the National Commission for the Accreditation of Special Education Services.

School Notes

  • Preschool/Kindergarten Program
  • The majority of research evidence clearly shows that early intervention is crucial for later student success. This serves as the justification for the Strawbridge School Therapeutic Preschool and Kindergarten programs. This intentionally small program provides targeted clinical, behavioral, and academic interventions. The goal of this program is to provide students with increased academic and social/emotional skills to be successful in the public school setting. Students benefit from the utilization of research-based academic programs, music, art, movement, and ABA techniques
  • Elementary and Middle School Programs
  • Our elementary and middle school programs target students in 1st 8th grade. Strawbridge currently serves students in this program who are designated with autism and emotional disability, in separate programs. Students focus on acquiring academic skills, at their level, in the main content areas including reading, science, mathematics, and social studies. In addition to core curriculum courses, students also participate in extracurricular courses such as music, art, and physical education. To best prepare our middle school students for the academic demands of high school, each student participates in a daily supplemental reading and writing class. This class is aligned to current student strengths, so all individuals can significantly benefit from the program. Like all MSDE-approved schools, Strawbridge adheres to the Common Core State Standards, as presented in the Maryland Common Core Framework.Students worked on several hallway murals this past school year.
  • Certificate of Completion Program
  • This program is intended to meet the needs of students pursuing a Maryland Certificate of Completion. These students are exposed to a modified general curriculum in the areas of math, science, social studies, and English. In addition to their core classes, students are also exposed to classes targeting functional living and life skills. Students can enjoy the benefits of participating in community-based learning, which allows them to practice the everyday life skills they learn in the classroom setting.
  • High School Program
  • The focus of our high school program is academic achievement while meeting the needs of our students who require additional support. Strawbridge high school students are seeking Maryland State High School Diplomas. County-specific graduation requirements are built into the curriculum. Each student is required to participate in core content classes, electives, and vocational classes. In addition to their academic requirements, students are also tested under the Maryland High School Assessment schedule, which includes HSA`s and PARCC testing.
  • Self-Contained High School Program
  • Our self-contained high school program is a highly individualized and supportive classroom model. Students have access to all core content teachers. However, these students will not experience the classroom transitions normally embedded in a typical high school day.Strawbridge`s self-contained high school students are seeking Maryland State High School Diplomas. County-specific graduation requirements are also built into the curriculum. Each student is required to participate in core content classes, electives, and vocational classes.
