The Kentwood program, founded in 1999, is a fully accredited day school developed for a population of potentially average to bright children who were not experiencing success in traditional school settings.School environments were either too expansive in their approach - causing students to be overwhelmed and unable to cope effectively; or they were too restrictive - placing students in environments with children with far more severe social, emotional or behavioral problems. In addition, these children were not experiencing difficulties exclusive to their school/learning setting. Rather, they were having difficulties that extended into many areas of their life; including home, social, emotional and/or academic. Some of these students have been diagnosed with ADHD, Aspergers, Anxiety, Learning Difficulties and related diagnoses. Many of these students do not have a diagnosis at all; they simply perform better in a smaller, safer and more consistent atmosphere.Based on the above factors, Kentwood adopts a holistic approach to the child`s education an approach that includes a structured, nurturing environment with set expectations; supports; and rewards. Our success hinges on our expertise and understanding of how the child`s difficulties affect the whole family, our Therapeutic Intervention setting, and our exclusive teaching systems. Our program works to establish the child`s self confidence and trust in the school, the staff and the Kentwood setting. This in turn allows us to provide our students the skills, knowledge and tools to integrate successfully into school, society in general and into all other aspects of their life.

My daughter is a middle school student at Kentwood. I am so happy with my decision to enroll her in this program. The staff is fully invested in the student's happiness and overall well-being. My daughter has become more social with her peers and has developed some wonderful and healthy friendships. She enjoys going to school now and I could not be more thrilled about that. I have noticed her everyday home life has improved as well. She is getting along better with her siblings and interacting more with the family, as well as being more responsible. I highly recommend Kentwood!! It has been a fantastic experience for my daughter and our family.

I can't say enough good things about Kentwood Preparatory
School. Both of my children have been students and have had wonderful experiences. My son was truly transformed from an impulsive, sometimes disrespectful, difficult teen with behavior problems into an amazing young man that I am so proud to call my son. He graduated from Kentwood over a year ago and is in his second year of college, has held a job for two years and is very responsible! He continues to stay in touch with the staff and even gets some assistance when he encounters challenges in college. This is a place where everyone knows you, respects you and encourages you--a place where students thrive!
My daughter had some social issues, but was considered gifted academically in the public school system. Kentwood has been very sensitive to her social needs and strives to challenge her academically. She is in her 7th year at the school and has made tremendous strides, especially socially. She is blossoming into an incredible young lady! Having a personalized curriculum is terrific and can really meet your child's specific needs.
I feel that Kentwood has been the answer to our prayers and I will be forever grateful to them for what they have done for our family!
