School Notes

You`re looking for a true learning community - a place where your children can grow and develop into the individuals God designed them to be. This is why excellent academics are so important. You desire the very best opportunities for your students, and you want to know they are being mentored by Christian role models on a daily basis. Finding a school where biblical principles are integrated throughout the whole curriculum is of utmost importance to mirror your family`s teachings at home.

At Immanuel Christian School, our teachers embody the mission of inspiring students for purposeful lives of learning, godliness, and service. From kindergarten through eighth grade, children are prepared with a combination of solid academics and Scriptural truth, developing the knowledge and character required to make an impact in today`s world.

OUR ACADEMIC PROGRAM
A Comprehensive Curriculum
Our curriculum emphasizes the core subject areas of math, science, language arts, and social studies. God`s truth is woven into every lesson and activity, helping students develop a biblical worldview. Elective courses, academic clubs, and activities allow each child to explore their unique gifts and talents while developing meaningful relationships with peers.

Instructional Innovation
Our experienced, caring teachers utilize a spectrum of proven learning resources combined with exciting, new technology tools. We recognize that no two children learn in the same way or at the same pace. With small class sizes, we can better understand each student`s learning style and help maximize their potential.

Real-World Education
Students who graduate from ICS are critical thinkers and problem solvers. We instill these valuable skills through hands-on activities. When students are given opportunities to connect their classwork with the real world, they are energized to problem solve and motivated to make a positive impact with their education.

Christian Focus
Apart from biblical truth, the very best education cannot prepare one to succeed by God`s standards. At ICS, students learn how to embody Christian character and to think with the mind of Christ. Our community encourages the values of love, respect, camaraderie, and community service - all in the name of the Lord. Every subject has a faith component, emphasizing Christian principles across all areas of study.

OUR ACADEMIC LEADERS INSPIRE AND ENCOURAGE
One of the most influential people in their child`s life is a teacher. The teacher has the ability to inspire, encourage, and challenge a child while expanding their hearts and minds. At Immanuel, we know that the partnership between school and home is critical in developing tomorrow`s leaders. That`s why we hire and retain exceptional teaching professionals who are called to the noble profession of education. Our faculty are lead by a team of three talented and dedicated principals who oversee the elementary grades (K-4th), middle school grades (5th 8th), and high school grades.

Our experienced team of academic leaders inspire creativity and passion in every educator at Immanuel. They lead by example, exploring new teaching methods and the latest educational tools that will unleash a student`s potential. Professional development opportunities, mentoring and collaboration help to provide an encouraging work environment for your child`s teacher. We know that an inspired and encouraged educator can change lives because it happens everyday at Immanuel.

SPIRITUAL LIFE
At Immanuel, it is our desire that every student will become a follower of Christ. We are intentional in providing opportunities for our students to deepen their faith, ask questions and put their faith into action. We consider it a privilege to partner with parents in the spiritual formation of our students.

We offer developmentally appropriate opportunities for students to grow in their spiritual journey. All students memorize scripture; Elementary students have chapel bi-monthly and our Middle School students have chapel weekly and these include worship, prayer, testimonies, small group discussion and guest speakers. High School students start every day as an entire school studying the Bible, discussing the culture and what the Bible has to say, and wrestling with hard questions. High school students worship together weekly during chapel.

STUDENT LIFE
One of the great privileges of Christian education is to provide students with opportunities to reach their highest, God-given potential. At Immanuel, our students flourish in an atmosphere of encouragement to take intellectual risks and discover the furthest limit of their gifts and abilities. The scope of grade-level and school-wide activities opens a world of possibilities through extensions to the class curriculum and clubs, athletic competition, fine arts and community service. The ICS family is committed to the spiritual formation of children, so we partner with parents to promote an educational environment that honors scripture memorization and the application of God`s Word in a personal, relevant way. At ICHS, advisory groups provide the opportunity to develop healthy relationships with peers and mentors.

ICHS has been an incredible experience for our family since leaving the FCPS. Academically my kids have received top-notch teaching which we rarely found in the public school system. We have found our children benefit from several of the teachers who have had prior non-teaching careers and bring their unique and real/true life perspective to the subject matter (government, history, statistics). The teachers really do CARE about the students and help nudge them if needed but allow them to thrive independently. Another notable difference with public schools has been the higher expectations in the classroom, required recitations, reading classic literature, and encouraging critical and independent thinking. In addition, my kids have not had to specialize in a certain sport as they are able to compete as multi-sport athletes in a competitive and goal-directed environment. We are truly thankful we found ICS and ICHS.

ICS stands out as World Class with a focus on the LOVE of GOD, Education, Family, and Country! Our son transferred from FCPS after completing 4th grade. Now in 6th grade, he is thriving! We feel blessed to be a part of such a special school. We want the best things in life for him and ICS delivers! WOW - what a FANTASTIC SCHOOL!

Our daughter is a kindergarten student at ICS this year and we couldn`t ask for a better school for her. The teachers and staff are incredible and the facility is well kept and very clean. She is loving her first year at school and we look forward to watching her learn and grow over the years at ICS.

We love ICS. The faculty is exceptional; the administration is excellent, and our children are thriving academically, socially, and spiritually. We love that the school provides both academic excellence and wonderful Bible teaching. Having our children at this school is a gift to our family, and we are thankful to have found a place where we can send our kids each day with complete peace of mind about their academic and personal growth.

I've been at ICS/ICHS for 9 years. ICHS is an amazing high school because it helps young adults prepare for the world with a Christian worldview. As a student who has been attending ICS for a long time, ICHS was the obvious choice for me. The teachers and staff are very helpful and take the time to help you. This school is great academically but also helps you grow in your faith daily. It is a good bit of work, but the later rewards and life lessons are worth it.

We absolutely love the school and the time and attention the teachers give both our children. They deeply invest in them, are available to the kids and us, pray for our kids, and we've seen both our kids' grades go up plus they are happier than the public school they attended before. We're so grateful to be part of a community like ICS that gives back, focuses on what matters, values, etc. but also has high academic standards, enrichment programs, support for special needs, sports, and more. We've also made a lot of new friends -- our entire family gets together with other families who have welcomed us with open arms to the school. The school administration is also wise and did an excellent job navigating covid and keeping everyone safe, while being open as much as possible. Could not recommend the school more.

ICHS/ICS is a great school that helps young adults prepare for a good life with strong Christian principles. It gives them strong moral values and a great education with many opportunities. I have been here for two years and have enjoyed all of it.

I love ICS. Immanuel Christian School has committed to staying open during the pandemic. The school leadership has made excellent decisions to ensure the safety of all their students. My son has attended for the last two years and I have marvelled at his growth academically and spiritually. To give you an example of his spiritual growth, our 1st grader comforts his Mom after the Capitol incident, citing that maybe it is part of God's plan and reminding her of Joseph being thrown into slavery. While the school was online during the beginning of the pandemic, my son's teacher were resourceful, flexible, and brilliant. I was amazed how quickly they were able to transition from traditional in-person classes to virtual distance education. The school is extremely safe. There are officers, security systems, and checkpoints throughout the school to ensure the safety of its students. ICS is also affordable and committed to the success of their families. I am so grateful that God lead me to ICS.

ICS has thoughtful teachers that provide individual attention to students. The school reinforces christian principles like honesty, integrity, compassion and service to others. It also offers some great after-school activities (photography, rocketry club, chess club) and sports (cross country, basketball) starting in 6th grade, which a lot of public schools do not. The cost of the school is moderate compared to others in the area, and I really believe we get a great value for the cost.

Our two children have been at ICS since the oldest was in 2nd grade in 2012. The two big distinctive for us are (1) the curriculum is thoroughly based in the Biblical worldview, and (2) the teachers and staff sincerely love and pray for their students.

All three of my sons are graduates of Immanuel Christian School, and we are SO grateful for the influence this school has had in their lives. Academically, they were well prepared for High School and college. Not only in a big-picture sense but also in smaller things like teaching cursive and learning parts of speech, which aren't typically taught in public school today. And more importantly, the spiritual input my boys received as students was invaluable during such formative years! When your child is spending 8+ hours in the care of another adult, it is invaluable to have that adult support a Biblical worldview. Daily devotions, spontaneous prayer throughout the school day, learning the tools of peacemaking during conflict, serving others in Jesus' name: all of these are distinctive of Immanuel. My sons have said that when they transitioned to public school in HS, it was clear to them, by contrast, how much the teachers of Immanuel cared for them as people. The teachers not only teach, they disciple their students! God truly is with the students and faculty at this school!

ICS is an amazing school! As a parent who attended private schools K-12 including four Christian schools with assorted curriculums which didn't always meet the mark and a high level private, all girls prep school for high school, I can say that ICS is the best school I have ever encountered in my K-12 educational experience. We are thankful for the leadership which understands academic excellence and character are intertwined. We respect and support the desire and curriculum which unashamedly teaches biblical truths. We love that the environment is warm and positive, and if you learn one thing at ICS as a child, you learn that you are loved, and it is in that context that teachers teach, instruct, correct, meet challenges and interact. As a parent, I love the fact that the school is beautifully organized, expectations are clear and communicated, and I am always welcome. My younger daughter is counting the months until she too can attend.

Great school in the DMV area. Academically, spiritually and socially nurturing. They are opening a High School in the 2019-20 year. The faculty cares about the children and show grace without foregoing expectations of student responsibility.

The teachers are very caring and do not just push the kids through the system. They took the time to help my children be successful academically, socially and spiritually. ICS has the resources available to help students with educational challenges. I'm so thankful to be here as I do not believe we would have gotten the attention we needed in the public school system.

Just moved to ICS earlier this year and was very hesitant how my kids would adjust. They''ve been to only one school prior to ICS and I didn't know how they''d do with the change. But I found that they are not only surviving, they are in fact THRIVING! The teachers are great - full of love and genuine care for students. The administration runs like a well-oiled machine - very professional. Security is top-notch, the facilities are beautiful...I honestly can't think of one bad thing to say about this school.

This is our 5th year at ICS. We have a daughter in 4th grade and a son in 2nd grade. Another daughter will be in kindergarten next fall. I am constantly amazed at the caliber of education, both in academics and biblical instruction. I love that Bible teaching is intertwined with the academic curriculum. The academics are challenging. It is obvious that the teachers really care about their students; the school environment is encouraging but not coddling. Expectations are high but so are the rewards. We feel blessed to be a part of the school.
