Fair Oaks School

In existence since 1984, Fair Oaks Academy is acknowledged as a school that accomplishes ease of reading, proficiency in math, and excellent penmanship in young children, allowing them to move early into the study of subjects that are individually interesting to them.
Fair Oaks Academy is held in high regard for bringing out the best in a child.
We look for how each child is gifted, and often discover it.
Art and creativity are encouraged, and we offer a substantial arts program.
We are particularly strong in music, including musical theory, so that a quite young child in our school will begin to read sheet music and will graduate smoothly from recorder study to instrumental band, and from kindergarten-level singing to higher gradients of harmony and rhythm.
As a component of physical education, the children are offered various kinds of dance, ranging from the "big circle mountain dances" of North Carolina to hip-hop, ballroom, or Irish dance.
We think children should get out to see and experience the world, so classes have regular and varied field trips.
Additionally, our beautiful and rustic six-acre Santa Ana River retreat in the San Bernardino mountains is available throughout the year for activities such as hiking, harvesting apples and pears, nature studies, American Indian studies, snow-play and summer camping trips.

Both of our sons have been attending Fair Oaks Academy for the past several years. We chose the school because of the superlative work it does with its students. While other schools may have better facilities (and charge exorbitant tuition for it), Fair Oaks is unparalleled in what it enables its students to achieve. We are well acquainted with our sons' classmates and each child displays an impressive level of intellect and maturity. The teachers are exceptional, enabling students to read and do math at several levels above their current grade. The school allows students to advance at their own rate, so bright kids can learn rapidly (unsurprisingly Fair Oaks alums eventually matriculate to schools like Stanford, Berkeley and MIT). We are also pleased with the school's congenial atmosphere. Since the school has a small student body, the school feels more like a close community / extended family. If you have a precocious child, you should consider Fair Oaks. You'll be amazed by what your child can become.

My four-year-old son has been attending Fair Oaks for the past three months. We could not be happier with this school! He comes home every day bursting with new things to tell me. I am often amazed at how much he learns and retains daily. He just turned four and tonight he was telling me all about the Geography lesson he had today. He is also very close to reading, and when he started he did not even know many of his letters. Beyond the academics, I''ve noticed how much more kind and patient his is now when dealing with his little sister. I attribute this to the wonderful group of kids at his school. I don't know how the teachers do it. The kids are so kind and respectful, the older children often helping the younger ones. I would recommend this school to any parent!

I have four children. My oldest is in high school and I wanted to comment on the school. My oldest started at Fair Oaks Academy when he was three, and is now doing very well, personally (ethically, socially) and academically. My next two are still in the school, and my youngest will go when she is old enough. My daughter is 11 and is substantially ahead of grade level. She is finishing up 7th grade math and is at a comparable level in English. I like that the school allows students to move ahead rather than keeping them at a specific grade level. The school has a focus on complete understanding and makes sure the student really has mastered the skills taught before moving on. I like this. It works out well for kids who are above or below grade level, because they really "get" what they are studying instead of moving forward, confused. The arts program at the school is very strong. My children participate in vocal groups, jazz band, dance and fine art lessons from a qualified art teacher. It is a small campus so they do not have their own field. Classes go to two nearby parks and play a variety of sports. My children are very into competitive sports, and so we have them in sports activities on the weekends. I do think this has been an important way that we have balanced the strengths of the school with this area that could be stronger, the sports. Something else I like about the school is that they seem to have, for the most part, side-stepped "popular culture craziness". It is a pretty calm environment. There don't seem to be any cliques and the kids all seem to get along well.

"My son attended Fair Oaks Academy from first grade to fifth grade. I chose the school because of the small class size, the music program, the outstanding teachers and the beautiful yard. While the public schools with their big pavements and iron fences in our area looked more like a jail to me, Fair Oaks Academy appeared more like a child's backyard. The school has beautiful trees, a climbing wall and a tire swing which invite the children to play creatively. This was important to me since I believe a young child still needs a lot of recess and green areas are the best! My son especially enjoyed the music program where he played the clarinet and alto saxophone. The school jazz band performed for parents and local charity events. We are outdoor people and our son loves playing in the woods. At Fair Oaks Academy the children have the great opportunity to visit the school cabins in the mountains. In the wintertime my son went sledding there and during the summer he enjoyed swimming in the river next to the cabins. Academically, our son got the opportunity to work at his own pace and he really advanced in math and literacy skills. We have liked the small class sizes and we could not imagine our son in a public school classroom with over 35 students in class. Fair Oaks Academy has helped my son to become the wonderful person he is. Thanks Fair Oaks Academy!"

The reason why I picked Fair Oaks Academy for my daughter's education was because of their stellar academics program. Plus they provide art, dance, music, singing & P.E. programs included. The teachers are amazing and the environment is safe! My daughter is ahead in her academics and loves going to school. That is a great sign! Our other daughter will be attending once she is of school age and I highly recommend Fair Oaks Academy.

My daughter is a graduate of Fair Oaks Academy. I would simply say that if you love your kid, send them to this school. My daughter received an excellent education and uses the study skills she attained at Fair Oaks Academy every day. I have seen her read a novel in a day on more than one occasion at no prompting from anyone. I am forever grateful to those who care about our future the way the staff at this school cared about mine.
