Based on the findings of Jena Piaget and the teachings of John Dewey, Waverly's educational progressive and developmental philosophy asserts that students learn best when they are actively involved in their education.

I am so thankful that I found The Waverly School for my two children. It is an encouraging, welcoming environment for children of all backgrounds. The teachers are so thoughtful and engaged. The community is diverse and friendly. The head of school has a strong vision for the future growth of the school and I am thrilled that our family gets to be a part of that journey. Anyone looking for a school focused on progressive education for their child should take a tour of Waverly. You won't be disappointed.

Waverly is a true blue progressive school- students learn by doing instead of rote memorization and aggressive testing and homework. The students are encouraged to be their authentic selves and are very self-possessed, interesting, and NICE. Teachers are committed and thoughtful and meet students exactly where they are. We have a Kindergartner and a 2nd grader and we couldn't be happier with our experience so far. When conflicts have arisen, they have been addressed quickly and with deep care by the teachers and staff. The head of the school is fabulous and has a great vision for the future of the school. The parent community is kind, unpretentious, and inclusive. Very impressive college placement for high school students. Because of the small class size, students get tons of attention and opportunities to try different things within the classroom. If you're looking for a traditional school, look elsewhere. Waverly is a very special school and I can't recommend it enough.

I didn't think it possible for middle and high school years to be as calm & joyful as our experience at Waverly -though fair warning: if you want your MS & HS students to have 3-4 hours of daily homework, Waverly is not the right school for you!-Small class sizes-Progressive learning (-not endless tests and excessive homework!!) -Teachers who know your kids and what they need - adapting their workload to push them at the right pace and depth of learning -Supportive engaging sports program (-not intensely competitive & exclusive)-12th graders who voluntarily hang out with 9th & 10th graders -Head of School in 2nd year making thoughtful changes-$4M donation led to buying building next door -Strong tuition assistance program-Organic farm for education and future first daughter joined in 6th grade and enjoyed it so much our other two daughters joined the next year. We are in our 3rd year at Waverly and love the teachers, administrators, students & families in this community.
