The school is different from most other schools and is a great fit for those who value that difference. So how is it different? The school is grounded in the belief that every time a child learns something good, true, or beautiful, the child's neurons, created by God, bring the child closer to the knowledge of the source of all things good, true, and beautiful. In the early years this means reading good literature that touches the heart and makes students receptive to truth, goodness, and beauty. It means that the logic of language is stressed, and then formal logic and deductive reasoning are taught. The early years are focused on grammar- not just of English but of all major disciplines. Students learn and drill fundamentals of math using a solid curriculum. Students learn the logic of scientific processes. Students learn the fundamentals of Latin. Then in the middle school years there is a shift of focus. Having learned correct facts, clear language, and proper use of grammatical rules, the focus becomes a development of logic. This shapes how students learn to write, how they approach doing math, how they approach biblical studies and theology. Students are all expected to learn art and music and keep on learning until graduation. Students learn to construct truth from truth, create beauty from beauty, and live lives of goodness from the example of the one who is truly good. Then in high school comes another shift. It's about conveying knowledge to others in correct and persuasive ways. Students write and write. Math classes typically provide students the "answers" and expect students to provide solutions and proofs and come to class able to discuss the solutions on the board before the class. Merely getting the right answer gets students little credit in math or any other class. This is because methods and reasoning are treasured by the faculty. Senior thesis is just the same way. Students must learn to present convincing arguments in writing. The end result is an exceptional education based on proven value systems and proven educational techniques and philosophies. Students will go into the college classroom armed to the teeth and able to succeed at the highest levels in any university.Campus is on a truly beautiful plot of land and classes love to meet outside. Students develop close bonds and are wonderful friends to one another. The students are cohesive and helpful to one another. Students do not see other students` success as a zero sum game. It's a wonderful environment for those who value what makes the Augustine School truly different and special.
