Acton Academy Hampton Roads is a self-directed year-round learning environment with locations in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, and Norfolk- serving young people from K to 12th grade.
The school is part of the Acton Academy network a network of learner-driven micro-schools started in Austin, TX in 2009 and considered by many to be a leading model of educational innovation in the United States. We believe we are the most nurturing, deep-learning environment in the world and are always thrilled to share it with intentional families.
At Acton Academy Hampton Roads, we believe everyone is born a genius, with unique character traits and interests, directing them towards activities and subjects that fit their natural inclinations. While still young, these inclinations might be towards music, math, sports, tinkering, building, writing or the arts. By allowing learners to naturally learn about anything that interests them, they become masters of their field. They learn how to learn and nothing can stop them. This intense connection and desire to learn allows them to withstand the pain of the process- the self doubts, the tedious hours of practice, and inevitable setbacks. They develop a confidence, work ethic, and resiliency that most lack. They know exactly what they want out of life and no one is going to stop them.
