I remember vividly, my first time visiting JCS. My skin felt electric as I toured the school, and I told my husband, "This is the place!". My son was doing great academically at his old school, but socially and emotionally he was struggling. As a parent, it was really tough to watch the light drain from him every day he went to school the last year. It would brighten on weekends, holidays, and vacations, then dim again once his school reopened. He did a trial at JCS and didn`t want to leave, he told me that he had found his people. Everyone wants to feel like they belong, it makes even the seemingly mundane daily events more enjoyable. My son doesn`t just feel that he belongs at JCS; he does belong! He enjoys ALL of his classes, even the ones he used to force himself to do. He enjoys telling me about his day again, who he met and what he learned. School is more than just a place of academic learning, it`s the place our children spend most of their growing years and as such, should be a place they feel safe in a place they look forward to going to, and a place they enjoy learning in. The John Crosland School IS this place for my son and our family.

Our son has just started in the Kindergarten program at Crosland, and we can already say that he has found his academic, social and emotional home and will hopefully be here until he gets accepted into college. He has come out of his shell and come into his own in the short time he has been a student there, and it's because he feels valued, validated, and understood. The teachers, counselors, and administration could not be more caring, well-trained, and respectful of every student in the school. We are already saying we will look back in 30 years and remember the impact that joining this school (and specifically his teacher) had on his formation into a bright child ready to learn and make friends. We simply cannot recommend this school highly enough!

By the end of my son's 3rd-grade year in public school, he was barely making it through the day. I was frequently contacted about behavioral difficulties, as well as requests that he go home from school early. He was miserable. The large classroom size was overwhelming, and the teacher simply didn't have the resources to give my son special attention when he was disregulating. He needed a change, and smaller classroom size. I visited a plethora of private schools, but I wasn't finding the smaller classroom size, and there weren't enough social, emotional, behavioral interventions, which is what my son needed most. The John Crosland School is exactly what my son needed. The small size and the social, emotional, behavioral interventions have set my child on a completely different path. He's thriving, he's a leader, and he's made wonderful friends amongst his peers and his teachers. I envisioned him only staying through elementary school, but he had no desire to leave and has just started the sixth grade. I think we are at the John Crosland School for the long haul!

There is a moment when every parent questions what their child needs to be successful in school. That happened 7 years ago for us. Within weeks of entering JCS we saw differences in our son`s personality. It was/is a perfect fit socially and academically. Our son was behind in some of his academic skills but through the years, with each teachers help, he caught up. In 10th grade he made the NCHSS and is now on his way to college next year. JCS helped make this happen and as a mother I now cry happy tears knowing that my child found his place in this world.

We are thrilled with the John Crosland School and the academic, social and emotional progress our child has made in his first year. All of the faculty and the director really care for the students and understand learning differences. They use the Orton-Gillingham reading program which has been wonderful for us. They encourage the children and make them feel like successful students, even with learning differences. We are so happy that a school like this exists for our family!

This school has been wonderful for our child. The tailored learning, the small class sizes, wonderful faculty and loving therapy dog(s) provide exactly what our elementary school student needed in a learning environment. We have watched our child thrive here. We have also been fortunate to have an amazing head of school who has made incredible headway in teacher development, community building and overall happiness of the kids in a very short time.

This is my daughters first year of high school and she was so nervous about starting a new school. The support of the teachers has been absolutely outstanding. They are willing to try new things to help my child grow and learn at her own pace. They also value and respect my input as a parent. Her communication skills have steadily increased making her such a well rounded student. Definetly come to the open house events and you will get a small look into this amazing school.

JCS (formerly Dore Academy) has been a god send for us and our son. He has been with this schooll since fourth grade and now a senior. They have been able to teach him in ways he can learn. He once couldn't do homewrok and thes tress was incredible. He lives much more stress free and is doing great. The secret to JCS is it's wonderful teachers. We are in a beautiful new builing in a great location.

Our dzaughter has learning deficiencies in math and reading. She was struggling in the public school system to the point that we knew we had to make a change. The John Crosland School has been an absolute blessing. She's in her 6th year at Crosland, now in high school and loves it. More importantly, she's excelling academically! The teachers and staff are amazing and truly dedicated to educating these great kids. Great School - highly recommended!

The John Crosland school has turned around my daughter's academic life. She went from struggling in school and getting C's and D's to becoming a straight A student. The smaller classroom sizes, the knowledge of the teachers on how to redirect her wandering mind, the ability to teach in the way that she learns - all have been contributing factors to her success. The school is a beautiful example of what is meant by the phrase "its takes a village to raise a child". Teachers, staff, and other parents all band together to ensure that every child sees their way to academic success. School events are of high quality, the athletic program is amazing, music and art program are outstanding, and the facilities are exactly what is needed to provide a well rounded program. Visit The John Crosland school, feel the love and hear about the program. Its a community unlike any other I''ve experienced.

The John Crosland School has allowed our daughter the ability to soar educationally by offering smaller classroom sizes with a low teacher to student ratio. The teachers are all deeply committed to the success of their students by offering tutoring and openly communicating educational success plans with parents. I also appreciate the collaborative nature in which the parent council collaborates with the parents as they are committed to building a John Crosland parent Community. The John Crosland School has allowed our daughter to focus on strategic thinking skills through emphasis on athletics and the arts. I could not be happier with our experience at the John Crosland School.

My wife and I are delighted to have found this school for our son. This is his third year and he is thriving educationally and emotionally. The teachers are excellent educators who are nurturing but challenging. Indeed, since becoming a Crosland student, his aptitude in math and science has shot up exponentially. There also a number of extracurricular activities that are available. He enjoys karate. Overall, just a great school!
