St. Stephen's Academy Photo #7 - SSA - A Classical Christian School

St. Stephen's Academy

St. Stephen`s Academy exists to support families and churches by providing an academically excellent classical Christian education that cultivates knowledge, wisdom, eloquence, and godly character and equips students with the tools of learning that will last a lifetime.
St. Stephen`s Academy has become one of the leading PreK-12 classical Christian schools in the Northwest.
Our curriculum is designed to produce life-long learners who rightly understand and enjoy the world in which they live, engage contemporary culture from a Christian worldview, and communicate effectively, graciously, and truthfully.
To accomplish this we follow a time-tested classical liberal arts curriculum organized around the Trivium (Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric), which generally correspond to a child`s natural stages of intellectual development.
St. Stephen`s employs and develops highly effective teachers and staff who are committed to the classical model and who strive to pass on their love of learning to their students.
Our implementation of the classical Christian model of education has been rigorously examined and affirmed by our accrediting body, the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS).
Our model of education consistently produces students who demonstrate knowledge, wisdom, eloquence, and virtue in their homes, churches, vocations, and communities for a cost far below that charged by other independent schools in our area.

School Notes

  • We want our children to grow up with a passionate desire to seek and understand truth. We do not want well-educated adults who have merely learned to "win" arguments or "spin" facts. Rather, they should understand truth and be concerned to promote and defend it persuasively. We believe that this is an essential component of healthy families, a healthy culture, government, and society.

SSA has been a wonderful blessing for our entire family. Our three children are learning, growing, and thriving in an environment that challenges them academically and encourages them spiritually. The teachers, staff, and faculty are kind and display godliness in their conduct and character. I have volunteered as a coach for many years and have seen firsthand how the kids push each other to do better in a positive way. The students are hardworking, respectful, and have a lot of joy, which comes out of their desire to honor God.

Sending our daughter to St. Stephen's Academy is the best decision we ever made. She is thriving and flourishing at SSA. The academics are challenging and I've seen her improve in all subjects, while at the same time, she is growing in The Lord and building godly character. The only challenge with SSA is that the school is so small there are not as many extra-curricular choices and electives, such as band, football, ski team, etc.

We are so grateful that we found SSA! Our older daughter started at SSA as a Kindergarten during the pandemic back in 2020. The school had an excellent plan and execution to switch students from offline to online classes. The staff monitored the situation closely and communicated clearly and openly with every change, and made sure all families have the support they need in order to continue nurturing the students. Aside from the flexibility and strong execution with all the unknown and sudden changes, the school offers excellent academics and more importantly they teach the right values. Huge kudos to the staff and Headmaster, Mr. Koch! We know the students are in great hands with his strong leadership!

We came to St. Stephen's Academy 10 years ago to find an academically challenging environment for our Kindergartner. We found not only an environment with high academic standards, but also a loving and supportive community. We now have 3 kids attending, ranging in grades 2 through 9. This school teaches our children how to think, reason, and respectfully communicate. We have watched the school grow and develop over the past 10 years, but it has not lost the qualities that drew us here in the first place. I know my children will be ready for whatever future education and life has for them.

We came to St Stephens with the sure thought that private Christian education was out of reach for us financially. We came away amazed with the cost of a school and community that has proved immeasurably enriching both to our children and our family. Our children think and reason better then many high school children we know and their breadth of knowledge at a young age is a joy to behold. More then anything else however is their continual immersion in the Word of God. From the start with memorizing the books of the Bible to their understanding of deeper meaning in the stories themselves they are being given a level of understanding of the Bible usually reserved for higher education. To see it being done in a loving Christian community is just the icing on the cake. We cannot promise you will love it here, but we have and think you will too given the chance.

We have enjoyed having our daughter in preschool this year at St. Stephen's. The days and hours are very convenient, and I love that drop off and pick up can happen from your car. She loves the songs and art projects. The teacher is amazing and shows so much love to her and our family. She is getting a good introduction to numbers, letters, shapes, and colors along with good, Christian values. We have been very pleased.

Our family has been at St. Stephen's for 9 years and I am so glad that we found this gem. It has been a learning experience for me, realizing the difference and value of a classical education. This way of teaching is giving my children the immense gift of learning to think critically in all areas of their lives. My 15 year old thinks more clearly than most adults and credits her education at SSA. She has long-standing and great relationships with her teachers. Every time one of my kids gets a new teacher, I am surprised by how exceptional they are. How great to have a 5 star teacher every year!

This is an amazing school. We were drawn by the academic focus of the school, infused with a biblical worldview; the model of developing students who can think clearly and communicate persuasively; and the culture of respect. We are in our tenth year, and continue to be very pleased with the education and development our children are receiving here.

The teachers are top notch. The classrooms are full of respectful, well-disciplined kids. The environment is rigorous while at the same time fun and caring. This is a Classical Christian School worth looking into!

We are so glad to have found this gem of a school! St. Stephen`s Academy is an excellent option for families who are looking for both moral and academic training. The very capable faculty is concerned with the whole child, seeking to train not just the mind but the heart. We are new this year, and my four children have been warmly welcomed by classmates and faculty!

We currently have 2 boys enrolled at St Stephens Academy. We feel so fortunate to have them at this incredible school. The class sizes are just the right size and the students get the one-on-one attention they need and deserve. Our children have Art, Latin, Science, Library, P.E., Religion, and Music classes in addition to the normal academic requirements. It is a bargain for the price of tuition compared to other private schools in the area. The teachers, staff and headmaster are genuinely concerned in the success and growth of each and every child. We feel that everything we teach our children at home about social responsibility, kindness towards others, and good manners is reinforced at this school. I highly recommend this school for those who want a Christian upbringing for their Children.

Initially, we chose this school because it was within walking distance. Our child is in Kindergarten and has really blossomed this year. I have been overwhelmed by the quality of this school. Not only are the teachers exceptional, but they genuinely care about your child's success, you can tell that they love God. The environment is structured, caring, and they make learning really fun. They are continually improving and asking for feedback. I have not interacted with all of the staff, but the ones that I have met and worked with have consistently exemplified such respect and care towards their students that I have been very impressed. Their art program is award winning as well! I like that there is the ability to volunteer, it makes it feel like a family where everyone pitches in. I would highly recommend this school to anyone.

This is our fifth year at SSA, and our children love it! After trying public school and home school, St. Stephen's has been the fit that works for all three kiddos. They are being challenged academically and have formed friendships they will always cherish. The staff is genuinely interested in each child as an individual, and the small class sizes allow the teachers to really get to know their students. As parents, my husband and I have also made great friends here, and we appreciate all that SSA offers.

Our children are thriving and remarkably engaged at St. Stephen`s Academy. The administration and staff are professional and diligent in their work, gifted in teaching and love their students well. This is a school that regards high quality, purposeful curriculum with a knowledge of God at it`s core. While our children are away from us, we know that they are being challenged as thinkers and that their character is being cultivated. They are encouraged to think well, read well, speak well and write well.We have every hope that in partnership with a school like St. Stephen`s, our children will be prepared intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and relationally for what God has for them beyond our home and school.

We started St. Stephen's Academy this year, and are very pleased. Due to small class size, the instructors really get to know the children and their capabilities. The faculty here is so caring, like family. Everyone has welcomed our children. It has been a great experience. I can already see that my children have grown both spiritually and intellectually. There are many stem opportunities as well as language development from an early age. The classical Christian education is strong academically and backs up what we value in our own home.

We're so thankful for this school!! Our daughter started part-way through the first term last fall. and was so warmly welcomed into her class. We especially appreciate that she is receiving an academically rigorous education in a small, grace-filled school environment; that St. Stephen's engages the whole student, purposefully pursuing character development; that teaching flows from a Christ-centered worldview; and that school community is filled with teachers, staff and families who are dedicated to this classical and Christian education. We're so very glad to be part of St. Stephen's!

Our family has been at SSA for over 10 years. We continue to be impressed by the high standards, quality of education (all my kids love learning, have become avid readers and my youngest even learned cursive in kinder and had a blast doing it), caring and deeply invested teachers and Christ centered environment. I could go on and on. The classical approach just makes so much sense and it works! I feel confident that my children will be prepared for life and anything the Lord calls them to. Thank you St. Stephen's for partnering with us to raise up our children.

St. Stephens is a wonderful community of believers, educators, and families. We are blessed to be able to attend a school that balances high academic standards with Biblical principles, and an environment that truly cares about the success of each individual child. I send my son to school every day knowing he is being watched out for, nurtured, and challenged.

This is the best school my child has ever been too. The teachers are very loving, caring, God-loving and professional. The staff is kind and devoted to make the school a friendly and loving environment for the students. The academic studies are organized, profound and creative. When you see the students support each other, help each other and grow together, you know you're sending your child to the right place!

We have four grandsons in St. Stevens Academy and we are amazed at the quality of education they are receiving. The variety of areas in which to develop are fit to each our grandsons: robotics, poetry, law, art, music, athletics. The opportunities to develop the skills needed for leadership are available in abundance. One characteristic that we hold dear is the respect that we see to adults and to authority.

We absolutely LOVE St. Stephens! We have been at SSA for 4 years and we cannot imagine our children being educated any other way at any other school. When we made the decision to switch from homeschool to a traditional setting, SSA made it easy to see why this was the very best choice for our kiddos. From excellence in academics, discovery and fun in various clubs, challenge and hard work in athletics; this school is filled with Faculty and Staff that genuinely care about the growth, development, and maturity in our children. Our hope is that each of our 3 kids (5th, 7th, 9th) graduate from SSA!

We love St. Stephens! From the moment I walked in the door I felt that this would be the place for us. My 2nd grader always looks forward to going to school and always has nothing but good things to say when I pick her up at the end of her day. It truly is a family atmosphere at St. Stephens. I really appreciate the staff and there loving, kind but no nonsense ways.

It`s Monday morning. I send my kids off to school, little panic at the front door, we have misplaced the dress uniform sweaters. After locating them at the bottom of the closet, we shake the mud off and away they go. Later in the afternoon those same kids reappear with a couple of fresh food stains. They tell me about the art projects they worked on, classical music they listened to and books they read. They recount the math work sheets and recess games of tag or soccer. Then comes the homework spelling words (try "circumnavigate" in cursive), Bible history review page, extra reading. At dinner time we name the parts of the apple on our plate add refer to siblings as "unmitigated nuisances" (CS Lewis). By 7pm we are all tired and ready to do it over again the next day. St. Stephens has become a big part of our family life and we are grateful for it. It's a great school.

Our kids have attended St. Stephen`s Academy since 2014. The teachers are dedicated and passionate. St. Stephen`s Academy focuses not only on academics but the child as a whole. I appreciate the integration of faith with academics. It isn`t just a school- St. Stephen`s Academy is a family. I take great delight in the friendships our family have made with others. I look forward to the continued friendships with my kids and their classmates in the years to come. Furthermore, I love the diversity of the school which is a true image of heaven.

From the warm welcome at the beginning, to the heart of the teachers and staff to truly know each of their students' needs, to the high standards of the academics and instruction, to the culture of excellence and godly consideration that produces self-governing students, St Stephens has exceeded our expectations in every way. Truly, our family has been blessed in countless ways by the St Stephens community. What a stunning example of Christian community, grace and truth, wisdom, and professionalism we have experienced through our interactions with the staff! We appreciate the emphasis on decorum and inner character over image, and see the character of the faculty and administration shine through in everything they do! What a breath of fresh air in the private school arena St Stephens is!

My son was going to a different school every year from pre-k to first grade, private, immersion, public. After first grade at our local Grade A public school, we asked ourselves what did he learned in one year? We couldn't name anything significant. That's when we decided that his time was too precious to be skating through his grade school years. We were so happy to have found a home at St. Stephens for second grade. He came home everyday telling us all the new things he has learned. The amount of geography and civilization that he learned in second grade was similar to our 7th grade public middle school child, just not as in-depth. The smaller class size was extremely beneficial for our son who can be easily distracted. His teacher made him accountable for his work. He had a lot of re-dos, it was painful, but necessary. He is in third grade now, and he is happy to be at St. Stephens; he talks about staying through high school. The curriculum is difficult, but now I realize that my son does have the capacity to learn so much more, when it is expected of him.

We have attended St. Stephens Academy for 8 years now and we are so pleased with the education our children are receiving. The staff cares about our children and their success. Our children are not only being taught, but are learning to love learning. They are not being told what to think, but how to think and that will serve them long after their academic years.
