School Notes
- North Seattle French School opened in the fall of 2013 with a single kindergarten class. Since then, we have grown by one grade each year and established a preschool as well.
- Our school began when a handful of parents shared the dream of a local French-American school, and then worked hard to make it a reality. Some were French speakers themselves who sought to retain their heritage, others were seeking the benefits of bilingual education, and all were motivated by the desire to foster a sense of global citizenship in their children.
- With support from our families, teachers, staff, board, and administrators from established bilingual schools all across the country and here in the Northwest, we have built and continue to grow a school that embodies the best of both worlds: the academic rigor and proven organization of the French curriculum together with the student-focused, project-based and social-emotional learning approaches increasingly embraced in the United States.
- Our international community of families represents many different countries and languages. The global mindset our students gain from the immersion environment, as well as the relationships they form here, are gifts that will shape their choices, their opportunities, and their paths for the rest of their lives. We look forward to welcoming you into our community to join us in raising global citizens of tomorrow.

As a proud parent of a biracial child enrolled at North Seattle French School, our experience has been wonderful. NSFS embraces full French immersion, where dedicated teachers demonstrate a love for teaching language acquisition while fostering a safe yet stimulating environment to nurture young minds to grow in multiple facets of development. NSFS is a small, inclusive community with close relationships between teachers/staff and parents, exemplifies with many small celebrations throughout the year. Another standout feature of NSFS is emphasis on cultural enrichment. The school posts regular events like French festivals, week-long celebrations of French poetry or artistry or world-wide culinary sampling. Our child loves the well-rounded curriculum (French, English, math, art, science, music, etc), and varied after-school activities. In fact, he eagerly anticipates the school day. When asked why he loves school so much, he responds "parce que j'apprends de nouvelles choses".

We have had a delightful experience sending our child to the preschool at NSFS. The teachers, support staff, and overall community have been incredible. We love that our child is getting exposure to another culture and language, and she wakes up every morning excited to go to school.

My 5th grader is graduating this year, we`ve been at the school for 8 years (since pre-k). His younger brothers are in 3/1st grades. It`s been a wonderful experience for them to learn French from scratch (the oldest had no French when he started at 3yo). The community faculty and teachers are awesome. Best investment and definitely more affordable than other private schools. Events are so fun, kids really love school and are engaged and I`ve made so many great friends in the parent community! I just wish it went through high school!

My child attended North Seattle French School last year for pre-K and is now finishing her kindergarten year. It is important to my family for her to be fluent in French because that is my in-law's primary language. She entered school understanding some French, but she would respond in English. She is now fluently responding in French and even chooses to use it as her primary language sometimes. And the curriculum`s inclusion of French culture has been a fun way for my daughter to connect with her family overseas. My daughter has a fall birthday, making her one of the younger kids in the class, and the small class size has allowed the teachers to tailor the academics to her needs. She is excited about what she is learning and eager to go to school every day. And finally, it`s important to me to know the people that my daughter is spending her days with. The high degree of parental involvement means that there are a lot of opportunities to get to know the other families in the school, both within the class and school-wide. And all the volunteer opportunities and all-school events make it easy to get to know the staff as well.

Teachers and staff at NSFS work hard to integrate each student in the way that best suits him or her. The bilingual curriculum and its emphasis on Francophonie (the diversity of cultures across the French-speaking world as opposed to just France) cultivate strong linguistic skills as well as a great toolbox for everything from math to science, given its fusion of the English and French system standards. I am a French teacher at the Alliance Franaise, so the quality of language teaching is really important to me and I have noticed a significant improvement just in the past year for my son. The after-school program, while small, is expanding every year and this year has incorporated a number of great offerings like Kung Fu and soccer. My son is currently in 1st grade and has been at NSFS since preschool, and we are thrilled to be a part of this community!
