Humanex Academy

The mission of Humanex Academy is to support neurodivergent students looking for a safe and supportive community where they can celebrate their strengths and uniqueness, while stepping away from a deficit focused approach.
What all our students have in common is the need for a place to be around peers that are like themselves. This allows for both academic and social interactions where it is safe to make mistakes and where conflict, disagreement, and resolution, are possible with embedded adult coaching. At Humanex, we focus on students` strengths, the need to maintain momentum in areas of success, and the importance of maintaining a safe space for them to approach areas of challenge.

Humanex Growth Model
At Humanex Academy we help guide students and parents on a journey of personal growth and academic progress. Our environment allows students to be themselves and to truly thrive within a school environment. We build confidence, social skills, emotional strength, and intelligence in each student by focusing on building positive and trusting relationships. This allows for corrective redirection and in-the-moment social coaching in a manner that doesn`t make students feel like a problem to be fixed. Our goal for every student is to find personal fulfillment and their place in the world beyond Humanex.

A student`s academic progress is a byproduct of their ability to be curious, accept support, communicate, to be accountable to others, and to use the other skills in our personal growth model.

As students begin their journey at Humanex, the main focus is on learning how to learn and how to use the first two levels of the personal growth pyramid. As they build confidence, grow, and mature they will increasingly use all levels of this pyramid. We also know that growth in these areas is not linear and at times we will see students move backward before progressing once again. No student will take on this challenge in the same manner and maintaining progress can be quite the balancing act. Some students may come in with more skills initially, but grow slowly, while others may come in with minimal skills and progress at a higher rate. Either way, our program is designed to ensure students feel good about where they are and progress in a manner that makes sense for them. Our focus is on generating and maintaining momentum that is sustainable on an individual basis. We want all of our students to embrace this challenge of balancing a pyramid on its point and to learn that the resilience required to do this, while challenging, can be both fun and fulfilling. These are the skills they will use for a lifetime.

Humanex Students meet the following academic, social, and behavioral criteria:
  • A desire to engage and participate in the Humanex Academy community.
  • Benefit from a school program that focuses equally on academic and social growth.
  • Ability to positively interact with peers and adults within the building.
  • Ability to take redirection and support from staff as needed.
In order for us to maintain our program effectively and meet the needs of our student population, Humanex Academy does not accept students who:
  • Require intensive one-on-one academic support.
  • Have recent history of significant disruptive behavior or physical aggression within the school environment.
  • Are currently using drugs or alcohol.

Although Humanex enrolls students from 6-12 grade, the skill levesl of our students vary and, because of our small class sizes, teachers are able to meet each student their academic level across content areas. Our unique approach to curriculum and instruction allows for all students to be challenged appropriately and show growth.

My child was ready for an environment where the focus is on learning not just academics, but how to be a better human too. It has been a supportive program with the opportunity to learn math, language arts, science and history as well as art and PE. They have spent time in the community near the school as well. It has been a great place for the students to spread their wings and practice flying.
