What Makes Vine Academy Unique?
- Varying Class Sizes: Vine's unique approach to class size is one of the ways we are most effectively able to customize the curriculum to our student's individual needs. Core classes (literature, writing, and math) are taught in small class sizes of six every day. Content classes (history and science) are taught in class sizes of up to eighteen (twelve for our primary students). The students' other classes, including Spanish, projected learning (a project-based executive functioning class), art, music, fitness, and others are taught in medium-sized groups.
- High Rigor/Low Anxiety: At Vine, we believe that children are best able to learn in a comfortable, relaxed state of mind. Our intentionally low-stress, homework-free structure supports a rigorous education beneficial to each of our students. We seek to maximize each student's executive functioning skills by gradually increasing the difficulty of work according to individual ability. Through this model, our students learn how to handle more rigorous work, leading to an education that is challenging and engaging but not overwhelming.
- Serious About Executive Functioning: Our position is that all students should be constantly developing and improving these essential productivity skills. Whether your child needs to learn the basics of managing materials or he's ready to learn to study smarter, not harder, executive functioning is for everyone. We even have a project-based class that our students take every day dedicated to E.F. development!
- Homework Free: At Vine, we strongly believe that the skills needed to complete homework can be taught in school, and we actively instruct our students to develop them. A sustained focus on independent work, breaking down large tasks into manageable pieces, and developing study techniques are some of the essential skills we prioritize as we ready our students for their next level of education.
- A Safe Place: We believe that a proactive approach to our students' social and emotional well-being allows them to be their best selves in the classroom and on the playground, markedly lowering instances of bullying. The way our students feel about themselves at Vine goes hand-in-hand with the satisfaction they feel from being appropriately challenged in their learning: they are more sure of themselves and less likely to act negatively due to insecurity. When conflicts do arise, as they will with all children who are growing and learning, the staff at Vine is ready to guide them through these trickier emotions step-by-step, showing them that there is always a way through to the other side!
- We're Ready to Meet You! Our admissions director, Amy, is ready and waiting to meet for a Zoom or phone call to learn about your family and share about Vine. She'd love to hear from you to begin a discussion about whether Vine Academy could be the right fit for your child!
