School Notes
- As the only classical Christian school in Lancaster County, Veritas Academy is entirely unique in its approach to education. The classical Christian model is based on a time-tested philosophy of academic excellence that trains students based on their strengths at each stage in their development. Students are instructed in the first three of the great liberal arts - Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric, which together make up what is called the Trivium - to develop graduates who are well-versed in the facts, well-thought in their keen ability to employ reason, and well-spoken as a winsome communicator.
- A hallmark of the education at Veritas is academic rigor that is met with deeply joyful learning. While there is emphasis on the study of the humanities and reading the Great Books, math and science training is equally advanced. The arts are also held in high esteem as a crucial component of a well-rounded education and appreciation for the world and culture. In all subjects, teachers train students to examine the world through a Biblical lens, and to see Christ as the centerpiece of all human learning.
- The first phase of classical Christian education is the Grammar phase, which encompasses kindergarten through 6th grade at Veritas. In these years, children learn foundational, educational truths while they discover the joy of learning, often through song, chants, and movement. The study of Latin begins in second grade, and by 6th grade all students have strong math skills, completing pre-Algebra.
- In the Logic phase, encompassing the middle school years or grade 7-9, the focus shifts to developing strong skills for critical thinking. Students take formal logic courses, and nearly all classes employ a dialectic approach, encouraging discussion in classes to allow students to practice the reasoning skills their are developing.
- In the later years, the Rhetoric phase trains students to communicate effectively through speaking and writing persuasively. The capstone of a Veritas student's education is their Senior Thesis, which they must present and defend before a panel.
- Together, these three stages of classical Christian education produce students who are critical thinkers, exceptional communicators, and lifelong learners ready to engage the world with God's truth, beauty, and goodness.

As a student at Veritas Academy from kindergarten to senior year, I can truly say that the "Veritas experience" is one that I will always be extremely thankful for. Without Veritas and my great parents as a guide in my younger years, I doubt I would have been nearly as driven or passionate about learning. My experience has been very different than my friends from public schools, yet the experience is one that I would not go back and change. I have been fortunate to be taught why it is important to care about literature and history even though I am more inclined mathematically. I have even grown to love history, literature, and theology, often to the same extent as mathematics. This classical approach, similar to the liberal arts college approach, has been extremely influential in my ability to care about learning and thinking critically about topics that are thrown at me. On top of the academics is the strong community found in Veritas Academy. My classmates are more like family members than friends. With that comes difficulty in relationships from being with them every day, but this also passively teaches the ability to get along with others even when it is the last thing you want to do and to see them as brothers and sisters in Christ. Much like a working environment where you cannot escape social encounters that would otherwise be easier to avoid in a crowd. That being said I can honestly say I get along well with all of my classmates which has been and will continue to be a blessing for years to come.

Veritas Academy has been a tremendous gift to our family. We are so grateful to have Veritas partner with us as parents in raising up our children to love and serve the Lord. We love the rigorous teaching, joyful and fun learning environment, counter-cultural and tradition affirming approaches and the tight community of Veritas families. As business owners, we have also been impressed by the visionary and courageous leadership that we observe from Veritas' administration and teachers. The generous financial aid has also been a blessing in allowing our family to afford private education. We can't recommend Veritas Academy enough!

Veritas beautifully combines educational excellence with humility. They truly live out their mission of cultivating, loving, serving & thinking students. I was an elementary teacher before becoming a mother and therefore have been in various schools and in many classrooms, but it is easy to say that the classrooms at Veritas are filled with the most joyful learning I have ever seen. Veritas has cultivated a love for learning in our son as well as a confidence that he can learn and grow, and we will be forever grateful for the impact that this school is having on our children. Just attend their kindergarten knighting ceremony or tea party, and you'll know that each rich lesson and tradition teaches the students so many things at once.

Throughout my nine years at Veritas, I have truly learned what it means to be a loving, serving, and thinking leader. My teachers have poured so much time and energy into me. They challenge me in my classes and push me to be better while also caring about me on a personal level. Because of the small community at Veritas, I have also had the privilege to be involved in so many amazing activities. From cross-country to basketball to International club, I have grown into a well-rounded person with a variety of interests. As I look ahead to college next year, I am confident that Veritas has prepared me both academically and spiritually for this next chapter in my life.

Our family is tremendously grateful for Veritas Academy for many reasons. The Biblical worldview in the classroom was a factor in our decision to choose Veritas Academy. We are exceedingly grateful for teachers who genuinely care about and pray for their students and truly shepherd them, not just academically but spiritually, seeking to guide them in the way of the Lord. We are also thrilled with the interactive learning style.... each year's theme based on the historical period they are studying that year, with activities, parties, field trips, plays, and crafts all tailored to reinforce the facts in exciting and memorable ways. Veritas Academy has been a true blessing to our entire family.

We researched long and hard to find "the school" for our soon to be a kindergartner. As soon as we walked into Veritas for an Open House, we knew our decision was made. We couldn't be happier with our choice. Veritas has strong academics, a good sports program (and partnership with Warwick for some sports), a blossoming arts program, and teaches strong Christ-based morals and values to create "loving, serving, thinking" students. The teachers are there because they love teaching and their love for each class is evident. The curriculum is difficult and the kids work hard but there are also so many fun and goofy traditions like a confetti parade, pancake races, many feasts and field trips at each grade. My child can't imagine going anywhere else!

Biblically based, rich in tradition , warm and loving community. Joyful learning is practiced here through play and experiences. Blessed to be a part of this school.

My favorite things about our family's school are: the Classical approach that teaches kids HOW to think, not WHAT to think, the unique community of parents and teachers, and the way an appreciation for God's word and truth are woven into the daily life at the school. With the Trivium, and the Classical methods of teaching, I feel like the students are growing in being able to think critically about the world around them, to understand how to listen and ask the right questions, and to hear other thoughts and viewpoints while both keeping an open heart and standing firm in their faith in even the most hostile world. They are equipped in logic, apologetics, philosophy, and scripture - with an appreciation for Great literature, fine art, and deep thought - truly well-rounded kids. In elementary school, the speed at which they acquire knowledge is incredible. The facts that they have memorized - example: second graders can tell you a complete timeline of major world history events from Creation to the fall of the Roman empire - are amazing, and they don't even have homework in elementary (grammar) school. The teachers are passionate about what they teach, and the way discipline is handled is unlike any other school we've seen. I love how our Dean of Students talks scripture together with kids who come into his office with discipline issues, how they pray together, and how the heart of the matter is addressed along with a measure of grace and Godly wisdom. Literature, bible, and history are integrated to provide a full cultural picture, learning is immersive, and truly equips them for life in the real world with an ability to think critically, love God's word, and serve others. I could go on... but we just love our school!

The people at Veritas form a welcoming, Christ-centered community. The parents actively support the teachers, and the students are respectful. The school has unique, intentional traditions that encourage students to think, serve others, and have some fun along the way!

Veritas Academy in Leola has been an incredible blessing to our children and family. The school welcomes the entire family into their community, and we have been as blessed by our interactions with other parents and teachers as our children have by their peers and classes! We highly recommend the school .

My children have attended Veritas for several years now and I cannot say how much the investment that their teachers make in their lives means to me. As each year goes by, I see the markings of Godliness left on their lives from their teachers. I can't imagine their education without Veritas and I cannot recommend it enough.

Our daughter has been attending Veritas for four years now, and she is thriving there. I have a master's degree in education and have gotten a good sense of schools in Lancaster county, and I believe Veritas to be the best of them. Particularly, I think the school uses students' time very well; they work hard all day learning valuable content, and no homework is issued in the elementary school years. The teachers are warm and loving, the staff is professional and kind, and the families who attend are thoughtful, generous people with strong investment in their children's lives. Virtue and character are promoted here in their truest sense, not by the teaching of generic monthly character traits, but by careful study of the Bible, the reading of excellent books, and real-life interactions amongst students and their teachers.

We have been so happy to send our kids to Veritas. The teachers are outstanding and challenge the students - Latin is taught in second grade! It's an impressive curriculum and well-done. We're glad to be a part of this community.

We have been homeschooling our girls for the last 6 years and when we knew it was time for them to attend a school, Veritas became the clear leader in our search. From the moment we made contact with Veritas Academy, the school's professional administrators and staff were beyond helpful in detailing the school`s educational program. We were looking for a school that would first reflect the heart of Jesus Christ and a reverence for the word of God. Veritas Academy teaches the method we were looking for in a school, the method of grammar, logic, and rhetoric that will develop our children to be effective thinkers and communicators.

I came to PA from NY to surprise my granddaughters for a quick visit. During my visit, I visited them at their school, Veritas Academy who has a welcoming open door policy. When I was in one of my granddaughters classes, I was impressed with the curriculum. A teaching method used to learn events in history is done through singing and hand motions. The children in the class were so well behaved and attentive. Being in the teaching field myself, I quickly realized Veritas Academy is a great school.

In the months leading up to our Big School Decision I heard a podcast that addressed the "Great School Debate" and weighed the options facing parents today. The podcast described their experience with a small Christian school as "a warm hug." As the mom of a six year old introvert with a strong desire to be with his parents all hours of the day, the idea of school being a "warm hug" was intriguing to me.From the moment I first observed the Veritas kindergarteners singing "Holy, Holy, Holy" on my first tour of the school, I knew this was the environment I wanted for my son. The structure, the excellent education, the emphasis on manners, and the solid Biblical worldview had me at hello. Knowing the teachers are not only the emotional version of a warm hug, but a spiritual one, too, helps me to rest a little easier. I can walk down the hall after kindergarten drop-off with confidence knowing my child is seen, cared for, prayed over, and loved. And when he needs it, hugged.

We have had a wonderful experience at Veritas! The classical model makes Veritas a very unique school in Lancaster County. As parents we are impressed by the amount of information our kids are able to learn and retain. More importantly, we appreciate the way teachers and administrators come alongside us to carry out the goals we have for our children. Building their character and preparing them to know and share Christ in this world.

Veritas Academy is a friendly, warm and welcoming school. Three of my children are thriving at Veritas. The teachers are especially knowledgeable and skilled, and beyond that, they care deeply for my children and help them work through life with Christ as their Helper. I love the quality education my kids are receiving in every subject, including broad History and Science in addition to the "3 Rs." Adding Bible, Latin, Music, and Art, Veritas does a great job as a Classical Christian school.
