Expectations Date: September 2020The Islamic Academy for Peace uses
Google Classroom to communicate lesson materials for KG through G8
students. This platform will be used during any period or days that
are designated for eLearning. The goal is to maintain curriculum
progression when student attendance at school is not possible due
to COVID-19, unexpected weather, or other circumstances. Parents,
staff, and students are expected to follow the guidelines below.
These guidelines may be updated on an "as need basis." Any changes
will be communicated to parents, staff, and students. School
ExpectationsSchool will communicate to parents on a weekly basis
any general information related to policies, procedures,
scheduling, academics, enrollment & registration, COVID-19, school
planning, or other school-wide issues. This communication may
include updates or reminders. School hours are from 8:00 am to 3:30
PM, Monday through Friday. Visiting hours are from 2:30 PM to 4:00
PM, Monday and Tuesday, and 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM Wednesday through
Friday or by Appointment. School will strictly uphold the visiting
hours protocol as interruptions effect the instruction of students,
particularly during remote teaching and learning. Teacher
ExpectationsTeachers will be available via Google Classroom or
school email for student and parent questions from 8:00 am to 3:30
pm. Teachers will aim to respond by the end of the school day and
up to 24 business hours. Allow for reasonable response time if
emailing or sending messages on Fridays or weekends. Teachers will
post assignments for every class by 8:00 am in their Google
Classroom. Specific instructions about expectations for assignments
such as grades and assessments are left to the discretion of the
teacher.Teachers will grade assignments on a regular basis and
grades will be posted inside the Google Classroom under student`s
name (privately viewed by each student).Assignments provided by
teachers may include a variety of resources such as online videos,
reading passages, textbook activities, writing, etc.Teachers
reserve the right to grant extensions for up to 3 days for work if
contacted by students or parents. Illnesses or other excused
absences should be communicated to the teacher directly. Parent
ExpectationsParents will ensure that each learner has their own
working space. This space is exclusive to the individual learner
and contains privacy. Adults, siblings, and/or pets are not in
their space to interrupt the teaching & learning for the learner.
Parents will ensure that each learner has 1 computer or laptop (not
a phone) with a charger, working camera, and microphone. Parents
will ensure that learner is prepared for class each day online as
they would if they were attending a live session at the school
building. This includes:oMaking sure that each learner has brushed
teeth, washed face, eaten breakfast, combed hair, dressed in
appropriate clothes (girls G3-G8 in hijab).oMaking sure that
learner is sitting at a desk or table. Students should not be
sitting or lying down on a bed or sofa. Assigning a designated
basket with textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, binders,
highlighters, etc. for each learner.Parents will read and review
all information related to their child`s/children`s eLearning
program and respond to it if required. This includes information
relayed by the teacher or by the school. Student
ExpectationsStudents will be "on time" for eLearning. This
includes:oArriving to Morning Assembly on time.oEntering all
meetings and classes on time.oReturning from breaks on
time.oHanding in assignments on time.oUsing the 5-minute layovers
to reorganize and prepare for next class. This includes using the
restroom if needed.Students will sit up in a chair at the desk or
table ready for class. Readiness includes:oProper hygiene and
appearance (as mentioned in parent expectations for each
learner)oBeing organized with all necessary books and supplies for
the class period.Students will remain in the classroom meetings
unless given permission to leave. Students will mute the microphone
during instruction unless asked to unmute. Students will always
keep their cameras on. Students will enter class meetings quietly
with a muted microphone.An old African proverb states: "It takes a
village to raise a child." This village is US. Together, we can
help each child reach their potential, but it will take discipline.
