The Diener School

Diener has been transformational for our son. He arrived after a miserable experience at his previous school, and the Diener faculty welcomed him with open arms and kindness. He has made tremendous academic and social gains at Diener because they have the interventions and multi-sensory curricula that work for kids with complicated learning challenges. It gets better every year because the school is constantly seeking out new ways to address learning differences. All that said, the magic is in the people. The administration has assembled a staff with the instincts, interest, and training in tailoring instruction for each child. It's a remarkable place.

"I think I've found it" my wife said excitedly on the phone one morning while I was at work. She had just visited The Diener School and knew right away that this was the place for our son. His ADHD had posed challenges that other schools, including a very expensive private religious school in Potomac, had utterly failed to meet- despite small class sizes and ample resources. What we realized after just a few months at Diener is that commitment, understanding, and training are more important than anything else when it comes to educating children who learn differently. Now in our fourth year at this amazing school, we have been very happy. More importantly, our son loves school, loves his teachers, loves his classmates, and is learning and performing at or above grade level. This is because of a staff that knows how to work with kids and their families, applies creative techniques, and is geared toward meeting kids where they are and helping them to succeed and thrive. What Diener lacks in facilities (about to change!) is more than made up in the quality of teaching staff, and that's what matters most. Happily, thanks to strong new leadership, the school is about to relocate to a great new facility with state-of-the-art classrooms, gym and outdoor playgrounds, and more. And the 2020-21 school year will see a great expansion into Middle School. We look forward to that. The Diener School welcomed my youngest son two years ago for 4th grade. When he visited as part of the admissions process, he came home and said, "Mom, I think I found my people." Since that time, he has increased his reading levels, become more self-aware and self-advocates, and loves his school. To any parents considering this wonderful school, the school community, parent association, and teachers are the most amazing, dedicated, loving people I've ever met. You won't be sorry!
