Notes for Prospective Students
The Barstow School seeks to enroll new students from preschool
through 11th grade who are prepared to learn in a nurturing and
challenging environment. Barstow students are expected to be
self-motivated and highly ethical. They must value achievement and
respect their fellow students and faculty. Admission to Barstow is
based on a combination of criteria. Entrance examinations, previous
school records, teacher recommendations, campus visits and/or
personal interviews are evaluated in an effort to enroll only those
students who demonstrate that they will benefit from Barstow's
college preparatory program. Since Barstow is a family school,
siblings of current students and children of alumni and faculty are
encouraged to apply and are carefully considered. However, such
family ties do not guarantee a place in any given class. The
admission committee must make decisions that will most
appropriately meet the best interest of the school and each class.
The admission committee seeks diversity and balance in selecting
the student body. The Barstow School does not discriminate on the
basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, gender, religion
or financial circumstance. Barstow is not able to serve students
with severe learning differences or behavioral concerns. The
committee evaluation includes:
Aptitude and learning style
Academic achievement, readiness and motivation
Social and emotional development
Interests, talents and extracurricular contribution Family support,
both of their children and the school
