Overview
The New School is a small independent high school where students take charge of their education.
Our approach builds confident, self-directed learners and a solid foundation for college and careers.
Students who thrive at The New School are often creative and enjoy active, hands-on learning.
Small class sizes, integrated courses, independent studies and opportunities for travel & adventure all yield rich learning that ignites students` talents and passions.
Berwick Academy, chartered by John Hancock in 1791, serves over 600 students in grades Pre-K through 12 and post-graduate. While also offering boarding opportunities, the student body represents over 60 communities in the north shore of MA, NH, and southern ME and offers 8 bus routes with 25 stops for easy access to the Hilltop. Berwick`s extensive arts and athletics programs complement a rigorous academic curriculum, which balances tradition with innovation and prepares students for a complex and dynamic world.
Students are empowered to be bold to take risks, own their learning, ask the difficult questions, pursue their passions, and to discover and be their own authentic selves.
