Overview
The Montessori School of Rome was founded in 1980 by Swarna Kumar. It was established to bring to the children of Rome and the surrounding community the opportunity to learn following the Montessori Method of education, a method first pioneered by Maria Montessori in 1907.
The Montessori School of Rome serves students from 18 months through 8th grade, in a toddler program (18 months - 3 years), a primary program (3-6 years/kindergarten), a lower elementary program (1st - 3rd grade), and an upper elementary program (4th - 6th grade) and adolescent program (7th - 8th grade). It is a private school emphasizing, as do all Montessori schools, peace and tolerance.
BCEMS is a member of the Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA), the International Association of Laboratory Schools (IALS), and is accredited by SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) and the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC).
All BCEMS faculty members have earned their teacher certification with over 90% having earned both an Ed.S., Educational Specialist degree, and an M.Ed, Masters in Education, or above.
The 16 faculty and staff members are indeed an outstanding group of folks, having more than 200 years of combined experience in the field. Additionally, BCEMS school has one of the lowest adult-to-student ratios in the country due to the fact that teachers are paired for an entire year with an outstanding student teacher from Berry College's nationally recognized Charter School of Education and Human Sciences.
Each classroom also benefits from a dedicated group of college student workers providing essential, year-round teacher assistance and close student supervision.
BCEMS is the best choice for families searching for a small, personable environment which provides unparalleled learning opportunities through a highly integrated and engaging curriculum based on national standards and individual, experiential learning.
