Overview
The Montessori School of Iowa city is a school which follows the Montessori educational principles of providing child-directed, individualized, hands-on learning within an environment especially prepared to meet the developmental needs of the two- to 12-years-old.
The school seeks to educate the whole child by meeting the social, intellectual and emotional needs of each individual; to foster student self-respect through experiencing success and independence; and to generate a sense of community among children, teachers, families, and school.
Willowwind School is a joyful learning community where children develop their unique potential through child-led inquiry.
Willowwind offers an independent, progressive elementary school experience with a Montessori based preschool program for children ages 3 through 12.
The school was founded in 1972 by a group of educators and parents to provide an innovative approach to education for the Iowa City community.
We believe that children learn best in an atmosphere that provides security, continuity, and high expectations.
A low student-teacher ratio allows teachers to establish informed, caring relationships with students and to meet the specific educational and social needs of each child.
