Overview
Lakemary`s Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility provides 24/7 therapeutic treatment for children ages 6-21 with dual diagnosis of intellectual/developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and a psychiatric disorder. Our program utilizes a reward system called Positive Behavior Intervention and Support. PBIS focuses on giving expectations, providing limits, and reinforcing appropriate behaviors as they occur. Lakemary`s school is a year round, K-12 accredited school. Each child benefits from services and supports designed to meet their individualized Education Plan, and have access to art, music, recreational, occupational, speech, and language therapies.
Horizon Academy's mission is to empower students with a primary diagnosis of dyslexia, dysgraphia, and/or dyscalculia, to become effective learners and confident self-advocates. Some of our students may also have ADHD. We are unable to serve students who have a diagnosis that is of an emotional or behavioral nature.
Horizon Academy is the only private school in the Kansas City area that specializes in educating students with language-based learning disabilities. Horizon Academy's goal is to help students with the skills they need to be successful in academics, social skills, organizational skills and self-advocacy, so that they can successfully return to a traditional school.
The average length of attendance at Horizon Academy is three years, with students attending between 2 - 5 years.
The student body is coeducational and serves students from K through 9th grade.
