Lakes Area Montessori Center was founded in 1979 and is situated in beautiful Commerce Township on 2 acres of land which backs into a natural pond in the back.
The school building received the Commerce Township Beautification Award in 2003.
The school was also awarded Congressional Recognition Certificate by U.S. Congress and a Certificate of Special Tribute by the State.
The school philosophy is based on a strong commitment to principles of respect, integrity, academic excellence and peace education.
The program is staffed by experienced Montessori teachers, certified by American Montessori Society with support staff members that combine qualities of competence, warmth and experience.
Each classroom is a beautiful, orderly and rich environment where children are encouraged to work with challenging Montessori materials in the areas of Practical Life, Science, Spanish, Music etc.
The outdoor play area has gardening plots as well as equipment for young children.

Lakes has amazing staff who are very professional, friendly, and caring. My child loved going to school everyday and learned so much. The class environment is calming, yet productive and children are seen working and learning every day. We love being part of the Lakes Area Montessori Family.
