School Notes

JMS is proud to hold a strong authentic Montessori educational philosophy that recognizes that children's physical, social, emotional and intellectual development are all interrelated. In the Jonathan Montessori environments the children are allowed to respond to their natural drive to learn, allowing the teacher to guide each child's own pace and rhythm and to give them personalized guidance where needed. Each child is respected as a unique personality and as an important, responsible member of a community.Young children take in a tremendous amount of information from their environment with what Dr. Maria Montessori called "the absorbent mind." The programs at JMS provide enriching hands-on learning experiences with specially formulated Montessori materials for:
  • Mathematics
  • Language
  • Sensorial Exploration
  • Practical Life
  • Art
  • Science
  • Geography
Making choices and using coordinated movements to accomplish tasks leads the child toward self-regulation and self-control. Our children develop observation and problem-solving skills by manipulating, experimenting and discovering. This allows their minds to move from concrete thinking to the abstract concepts that prepares them for the more complex studies of elementary school.

Jonathan Montessori School is amazing. Our son started going there this year and has really come out of his shell. He's engaging with other kids in a way he had never done before and is challenging himself in the classroom. He loves school, has a group of good friends that he looks forward to seeing every day, and we are so excited to send our other child there when she is ready. I cannot recommend JMS enough; kind and attentive staff, beautiful classrooms, and amazing outdoor spaces.

Our son Henry has been a student at JMS for a year now. Part of the Montessori philosophy is that the older students mentor the younger students. It has been amazing to watch Henry's confidence grow, as he demonstrates when helping his younger friends and family and interacting with new people he meets. The environment at JMS is an extension of the values we teach Henry at home, so we know he is in good hands with the staff. Social graces, intellectual curiosity, independence, friendship...the foundation of life skills that your child will learn at JMS.

Compared to many "Montessori" preschools in the area, Jonathan Montessori is worlds above the rest; it is a traditional Montessori program. The teachers & staff at the school are highly educated and treat my child as their own. The price of the full day program is less than other private preschools in the area and well worth every penny & more! I suggest you go take a tour! You & your child will fall in love instantly!
