School Notes
- Insight provides a unique educational experience for intellectually curious students, many of whom, despite their love of learning, have not thrived in traditional school. We strive to create a diverse community, and we embrace educational equity as a core value and guiding principle. At Insight, we emphasize learning for understanding, and we support our students with one-on-one advising/ mentoring and a daily social study hall. Students take 3-4 seminar-style courses per semester taught by experts in their fields, and they have ample opportunity to do field work, community service, and interest-driven projects. If I had to describe Insight Colearning Center in one word, it would be "community". As a firm believer that our children struggle to learn if they're in an unsafe environment, Insight has been life-changing for my daughter. By "unsafe", I'm referring to the anxiety, boredom & sadness that many of our students experience in schools/classrooms where they may be bullied, feel misunderstood, underserved, or overwhelmed by the demands of a traditional high school. As the parent of a twice-exceptional kid ( Gifted & ADHD), my daughter struggled tremendously in the traditional public school model. She felt so anxious in her environment, from the extreme loads of homework, teachers not understanding ADHD, the overly crowded classrooms/halls, and a struggle to fit in that she couldn't feel relaxed enough to learn. Coming to Insight, IMMEDIATELY changed this for her. From day one it was made clear that she was important, her individuality was respected, and she was now part of a community of teachers & students who "got it". I'm not exaggerating to call the experience life-changing. My daughter was finally somewhere she could take a deep breath and focus on school. The seminar-style classes are wonderful for all types of learners. And, the icing on the cake is how outdoor recreation/education is interwoven into the curriculum. Every other week the students go out into nature and go hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, canoeing, etc...I'm struggling to wrap up this review because I could go on & on. My daughter loves going to school and feels supported by staff & students. And, my husband & I have felt supported by staff who keep us up to date on challenges & triumphs. You will be seen & heard about your student's needs. If your child is underserved academically, emotionally, and/or socially this is the place where they can feel supported, grow, and thrive!

Insight offers a unique high school experience in a safe and welcoming environment. The course offerings are interesting and the small class sizes allow for more individualized attention which has been great for our son. Students are encouraged to pursue their creative interests and offered 1:1 academic advising which guides them through their courses and helps them stay on track with their assignments and projects. The outdoor and service-based learning teaches working together as a group and builds self-confidence that has helped our shy son "come out of his shell." The directors and teachers are kind, caring, and supportive. The students are a close-knit group that looks out for each other like family. I highly recommend reaching out to Insight now if your teen needs an alternative to traditional high school!

Insight co-learning is an incredible place for high schoolers to learn, grow and become part of the community. The changes in my son were immediate, positive, and ongoing. The hands-on immersion experiences such as "gym" class at the Eno River, camping at Lake James, and outdoor adventures in Key West, Florida to the creative application of math and science in solving real-life problems such as methane gas reduction in food waste management all help to describe Insight`s creative learning journeys. Before finding Insight co-learning, each day of the regular charter school was filled with dread, fear, and anxiety for my son and me. There was no learning happening when you are not seen by the teachers. I describe Insight`s programs as life-changing for our family. If you and your high schooler would like to hear more, please reach out today! posted by a Grateful mom.

This is a small school that meets students where they are and guides them through independent growth and achievement. My daughter learned and embraced advanced history, literature, biology, physics, and even learned ASL! Their skills and experience have served her well in her college career.

Insight Co-learning is an amazing new micro-school. After attending more than 4 other schools locally without being inspired academically or socially, my son was accepted and embraced at Insight and has grown exponentially in just 2 years. The staff is committed 100% to every student and the students learn to support each other and the school community. If you are looking for a school to embrace diversity in students and curriculum, I recommend you learn more about Insight.
