Notes for Prospective Students
EBS students must think, to speak, and to act for themselves
without using technology as a crutch--this means reading whole
texts rather than summaries, writing for yourself rather than using
AI generators, handwriting assignments most of the time, holding
conversations that involve listening and responding to peers and
guests, and spending a great deal of time outdoors or otherwise
working in hands-on learning capacities. EBS students participate
in face-to-face, human-scale community discussions on a regular
basis. EBS students read high-school appropriate texts and to
complete 2 hours of homework each night, with longer projects and
essays scheduled 1-3 weeks in advance. EBS students must confront
adversity, accept failure, learn from errors, and use empathy and
compassion when working alongside others. If you take issue with
any of these expectations, we encourage you to find a high school
that will not demand as much of you.
