Trevor Day School Photo #1 - From Grades 4-12, Trevor provides signature Common Spaces: a single open area in which teachers surround the perimeter. This is where students utilize their discretionary periods, collaborate with classmates, and meet with teachers and advisors outside of class. These spaces engender exceptionally close and kinetic student-to-teacher, student-to-student, and teacher-to-teacher relationships, and expose students to the dynamism of innovative thinking.

Trevor Day School Photo #2 - The Trevor signature family-teacher conference breaks the mold of the parent-teacher conference: it involves the student, empowering him/her to recognize growth, solve problems, and take part in developing an effective educational plan. All participants feel great investment in goals that are developed out of consensus and that they have played an active role in creating.

Trevor Day School Photo #4 - Choreolab is a coeducational, extracurricular signature dance program for students in Grades 7-12. Its magical power lies in the fact that Choreolab is entirely student-driven and student-executed. Students devote hundreds of hours to create, collaborate, choreograph, direct, and perform for the entire Trevor community. Choreolab is facilitated by expert faculty and serves as a model within an inquiry-based learning environment.

Trevor Day School Photo #5 - In every grade, service plays a key part of Trevor curriculum. The aim is to help students develop a sense of responsibility for their community and become empowered citizens who critically engage with the world. We do so by integrating knowledge and understanding with compassion and social responsibility, while we strive to promote empathy through diversity of ideas and experiences.

Trevor Day School Photo #6 - Trevor keeps students active and engaged with their environment, helping them recognize the wealth of information and resources that abound in NYC. Students participate in age-appropriate outdoor experiences, both day and overnight, which help them learn more about themselves, their peers, and the natural world. Outdoor education experiences emphasize the development of independence, self-confidence, problem solving, and community building.

Trevor Day School Photo #7 - Inquiry-based learning engages students in activities and investigation, which drives true understanding. Instead of reciting facts, teachers guide and mentor students to discover and reflect, via well-crafted problems. Here, Advanced Biology senior students participate in a groundbreaking study in conjunction with NYU's social neuroscience lab, whose research team is documenting brain activity when students engage in different styles of learning.

Trevor Day School Photo #8 - The Trevor athletics program emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and individual growth. A large percentage of students participate in our interscholastic athletic program. Passionate coaches, many of whom also teach in the classroom, help impart lessons central to athletic participation: self-confidence, cooperation, the power of hard work and commitment, and the value of winning with grace and losing with dignity.

Trevor Day School Photo #9 - Trevor teachers know every child both as an academic student, but also as a social being. Lower School programs empower students to find their voices, pursue emerging interests, and direct their learning. Trevor Day School Photo #10 - The Trevor arts program includes visual arts, dance, music, and theater arts, all of which are offered in the Lower and Upper Schools. Taught by working artists, its sweeping curriculum gives students the tools to create their own unique personal voice. I had three children at Trevor Day for many years. Trevor Day is a nice school with a nice community. It's not rigorous, creative, or engaging for students but it's fine for the average child. When we started at Trevor, it was more competitive with other private schools. The school has changed considerably over the years and now does not offer admissions to "accelerated students." Most of the time, my children complain about being bored. The materials they bring home are from standard publishers. The administration regularly told us that the school is small and that there is not enough support for staff to create a more engaging curriculum. Most of the good staff leave after a couple of years. The leadership at the elementary school is great, but the middle school leadership is wholly lacking vision and communication skills. For years, I recommended Trevor to friends, but I just can't anymore. The school community has become more of a country club focused on creating average students.

My son went to Trevor from kindergarten until he graduated in 2019. Trevor gave him opportunities to grow academically, accommodating and helping him develop his individual needs and constantly allowing him to grow as he needed. The teachers supported his curiosity and inquisitive, creative nature and he was inspired by their care and support. The school`s environment also nurtured his sense of community and the world at large. He was accepted in one of the best colleges in the world and just started, but he always speaks fondly of his years in Trevor and will continue the many wonderful friendships that he developed there as will continue his interest and involvement with this wonderful school. I can only highly recommend this school due to their academics as well as a kind, nurturing and supportive environment.

This is an academically demanding school that develops self-confidence and a love of learning in each student. There is full support for academic, cultural, and emotional development.
