School Notes

  • The Wilberforce School exists to provide a distinctively Christian education characterized by academic excellence and joyful discovery within a classical framework. We know that students spend the best hours of their day at school. Choosing the right school can involve hard decisions. Is it possible to find a school that excels in both academic rigor and character development? We believe so. Wilberforce is a unique school experience committed to intentionally stewarding those formative hours.
  • The Wilberforce School seeks to cultivate whole persons: intellectually, socially, physically, and spiritually. Knowing that ourstudents are stewards of their minds and hearts, we invite them to engage in the Great Conversation; they study written texts, musical scores, paintings, and sculpture to ask and answer questions, to provide springboards for creativity, and to set standardsfor excellence. Learning in community, whether around the seminar table or in the laboratory, is a hallmark of our classes. In every class at Wilberforce, students not only analyze and evaluate but also reflect and respond. They apply habits of responsiblestewardship, gentle justice, and self-discipline to their scholarship, their sports, and their service. We provide an Honors/AP level curriculum for all students. Every course offering - from Humane Letters starting in Grade 9 to multivariable calculus taught in Grade 12 - represents academic depth and challenge. Though we operate according to a differenteducational philosophy than AP or IB, the courses compare favorably in terms of rigor.

The Wilberforce School in Princeton Junction, New Jersey shines forth as a bright light in a world darkened by what often seems to be an impervious brokenness. For ten years I educated my sons at home, nurturing in them a thirst for knowledge, a love of discovery, and an appreciation for beauty and wonder. I wasn`t sure if we`d ever find these features in a school as so many schools seem more driven by numbers, regulations, and dictates than true passion for creating lifelong learners. But the very things we had prioritized from the start for our sons are all the facets of what make Wilberforce a unique gem among educational institutions. Our boys are all absolutely thriving there. The foundations upon which Wilberforce was built are of course the bedrock. Add to this a uniquely talented and passionate faculty who routinely go above and beyond to advance the success of their students through winsome engagement and vitality to their personal challenges to do hard things. They exude a tireless commitment to not just the values and ethos of the school community or their own careers or even to education as a whole, but to the individual student in their charge. What`s more, their work is bearing fruit.

Two of our children have attended The Wilberforce School and we have been very happy with the quality of the education. The teachers are really vested in the students and very approachable. The culture of the school is a warm caring environment with a rigorous academic curriculum. Both my children love the school and the experience has been nothing but positive.

We have had our three children at Wilberforce from pre-k onward, the oldest is now in the middle school. We love the teachers, students, and fellow parents. The curriculum is terrific, the instruction joyful, and the community is a huge blessing to our family. Most Christian schools claim to integrate faith and learning; Wilberforce does it exceptionally well.

This is an amazing school with strong values and academic curriculum, awesome and caring teachers and staff. This is out first year in this school and we will strongly recommend it to other parents . The Wilberforce School provides great environment and a lot of learning opportunities and after school activities. I love how my son started reading more books in the Wilberforce school and learnt to express his opinion and thoughts in debates and during in-class discussions. He loves the school, classmates and teachers, he feels challenged and he feels safe. Thank you!

We are so pleased to have found The Wilberforce School. It has been such a great experience from day one. Our children had been in the European school system and transferred in, although it was difficult for them because of the many differences, the teachers and faculty have been a huge source of encouragement and full of resources to catch them up. It is very rewarding to hear your children talk about how nice their classmates are! We couldn't be happier with the standard of excellence and the values being taught at Wilberforce.

Sending our son to The Wilberforce School is one of the best parenting decisions we've made. The school has offered him opportunities to grow both academically and spiritually, plus he has discovered talents that were previously unknown to him. We are delighted with the combination of intellectual rigor and grace-filled leadership. Our son is known by his teachers and coaches. He isn't just a number here, he is a whole person. This school is truly a community of learners, and our entire family has greatly benefitted from our association with TWS.

A remarkable school. We transferred our son to Wilberforce from the Princeton public schools and it has well exceeded our expectations. Whereas the Princeton schools sent him home with ninjago and dc comics books, Wilberforce has made him fall in love with Winnie the Pooh and the story of the Titanic. Whereas the Princeton schools were unable to deal with an uncontrolled fellow classmate who sent him to the nurse from being punched repeatedly on the ear, Wilberforce provides not only a safe but even a joyful learning environment. As Christian parents, we're, delighted to see him come home from Wilberforce with a striking knowledge and enjoyment of the Bible. We couldn't recommend Wilberforce more strongly, it is a superior choice academically, socially, and spiritually.
